With just two weeks to turn the project around, our partners at ‘Whale’, and our super talented team of producers, costumiers and 3D artists worked tirelessly to create these spectacular results against the clock. We then combined these scans with stock 3D assets such as armour and weaponry and for the close up of lead character ‘ Arminius’ (played by Laurence Rupp) we used Z-Brush and reference images to create a likeness.

We decided to cast stand-in models, outfit them full Roman and Barbarian dress and then 3D scan in our studio. Without access to the actors we had to come up with innovative solutions to create the models. The brief was to create statues sculpted from marble and onyx, for both the Romans and Germanic tribes, respectively. Working with Amsterdam based production outfit Whale, The Forge created several key cutaways to feature in a teaser trailer for Netflix’s 2020 series Barbarians.
